me

Aneea Toomajian MA, is an unconventional therapist and long time LMFT, solo mom of teen twins, wanna-be mermaid, and humble devotee of the seas and trees.

Aneea founded Positive Perspectives in 1993 with the intention of contributing to the health, healing, and wellbeing of others. This Pledge is so deeply felt that a Sanskrit version is tattoed on her arm:

LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKINOH BAVANTU

Having worked in environments that span from preschools to prisons, Aneea draws from over 30 years of clinical experience with both adults and children, as well as from a fully embraced crazy beautiful life.

Aneea was born in Santa Monica; growing up near and in the ocean. Living on a Peninsula provided constant connection with the water and allowed her to discover the sacred resources of the Sea. While caring for her mother through the ugliness of cancer, Aneea was sustained daily by the many powerful gifts Ocean Mama provided. Over many months and years, Aneea learned to rely on the reparative function of the Sea; counting on the divine ways She softens the rough edges of our broken hearts and allows us to restore our emotional equilibrium. Her relationship with Ocean Mama deepened and became central to her well-being and her work.

Life is f'in messy.

Healing is friggin' hard.

Exploring ourselves and our lives takes courage and grit.  It is Aneea's deep pleasure and honor to ride the waves with you. She has been heard many times saying "I have the best job in the world."

me + the sea

Now a long time grief walker, Aneea believes in the magical ways the Sea helps us to reestablish our inner resources. The rhythmic cadence of the waves alone enable our nervous system to remember and return to its' calm regulated state. An advocate of Wallace J Nichols' "BLUE MIND" concept: that "a profound sense of peace and a meditative state is found when we are in, near or around water", Aneea is deeply committed to sharing the healing benefits of the sea with her clients and community, both through her private practice and volunteering.

specialties

Aneea specializes in women's issues, loss and grief, BIG life changes, and elevating levels of compassion for our-Selves and others. She is dedicated to helping those she works with heal by holding sacred space for their stories and by empowering them to transform their pain into medicine.

Connecting is Aneea’s super power. Seeing and Honoring the sacredness in Everybody, Everywhere, Everyday.

Her Perspective is rooted in her conviction that the Mind-Body-Nature Connection is central to the Wellness of the Whole person.  Further, that we must explore how we relate to Our-Selves and our bodies and cultivate our strengths in order to become anchored in resilience. She believes fiercely in the power of Curiosity, Compassion, and Forgiveness.

Aneea brings together a wide variety of evidence-based methods to inform transformative healing work.  Working with an individualized combination of mind/body traditions from the East mixed with the practices of mindfulness and neuroplasticity of the West allows for a holistic approach to healing and growth.

Some of these modalities include: Talk therapy, "In-body"ment techniques, self-regulation strategies, mindfulness practices, nature supported movement, and ocean medicine.

Currently, Aneea is expanding her practice to include (more)  nature supported therapy.  In addition to volunteering for OCEANFLOW and WAVES of GRIEF, she founded and leads an on-going Ocean Therapy Support Circle for moms called MAMAS RIDING WAVES. She continues to offer WALK and TALK sessions that combine therapy, nature (Seas and Trees), and movement. In the upcoming year she plans to lead retreats both locally and abroad.

Aneea facilitates group circles and provides both psychological and educational consultation and training.
